TIER TRYOUT FEE | $200 |
What’s new for Tier in the 2025/2026 season
Team managers will no longer collect Tier fees. Instead, they will be added directly to each player’s account in the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR).
How are tier fees calculated?
Tier fees are based on the total cost to run each team, divided by the number of players on the roster. Once rosters are finalized and a player accepts a spot, their individual fee will be added to their HCR account.
The total cost to run a team includes:
• Ice time
• Officials (referees and linesmen) - excluding U15, U16, and U18 AA teams
• League entry fees
• Team registration fees with Hockey Sask
• Insurance for coaches and players
• Association operating costs
When are tier fees due?
Tier fees must be paid by November.
What happens if fees are not paid by the deadline?
Players with unpaid fees after the November deadline will be suspended from all team activities until the fee is paid in full.
Why do tier players pay more than house players?
All registration fees are set using the base rate it costs to run a House team. Tier players pay additional fees because Tier teams typically have:
• More practice hours per week, increasing overall ice costs
• More games and longer game lengths, which also raises ice time costs
• Higher official fees, to allow for 4 officials system
• External league fees that do not apply to House teams
• Longer seasons, depending on the team and level of play
These added elements are reflected in the tier fees, which are calculated to cover the full cost of operating each Tier team.
Does the registration fee cover Provincial games and qualifiers?
The fee covers Provincial qualifiers if necessary.
• Once a team wins qualifiers and advances, the cost of ice and officials for Provincial games will be the responsibility of the team.
Will a team be able to request more ice from Minor Hockey?
Teams will be scheduled to have ice as built into the season plan.
• Once a team has used its allotted hours, and if additional ice is available, teams will be able to purchase ice from MJMHA.
Are there other fees that a tier player will have to pay?
Yes. Once a player is placed on a team, team management will determine a team fee. This fee covers additional team-specific expenses such as bussing, team swag, socks, and tournaments, among other items at the team's discretion.
