MOOSE JAW MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION APPOINTS INDEPENDENT CHAIR OF DISCIPLINE

Today, the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association (MJMHA) announced a new independent Chair of Discipline for the 2018-19 season.

At the May 2018 meeting of the board of directors, Tim Hansen was appointed as the first independent Chair of Discipline for the MJMHA. Mr. Hansen is a local lawyer who practices in criminal law, litigation, and investigative procedures. Mr. Hansen played hockey at the Midget AA level in Regina before attending University, and also has no direct connection to the association.

“The Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association is moving in a new direction with how disciplinary matters are handled and the board will be focused more on player development and less about discipline,” Patrick Boyle, President of the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association said. “This game is about creating a fun and competitive environment for our kids to develop as hockey players. We are very excited to have Mr. Hansen come on board to take care of our disciplinary matters in 2018-19.”

All complaints and disciplinary matters will now be referred to Mr. Hansen. He will be treating all files in the same way so there is consistency with the policies and bylaws of the association. This will help the board of directors’ focus on player development and the game of hockey in Moose Jaw.

“I’m excited to be a part of this organization, and would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association and its board for this opportunity to be the Chair of the Discipline Committee,” Mr. Hansen said. “It’s my intent to be transparent and open to the fullest extent allowed under the Association constitution, bylaws, and policies, as well as under the Saskatchewan Hockey Association discipline procedures which are applied province-wide. It is my hope that we can efficiently deal with discipline matters so that the players under the Association’s development can focus on their skill development, honest competition, and the fun of the game.”
